What is Fastlane and how do I use it?
Fastlane helps you classify products faster by surfacing the ones where the AI is confident enough to make a suggestion - so you can review and confirm instead of starting from scratch every time.
How the Fastlane Works
When you upload a product list, Trade's AI analyzes each product. If it has enough information to make a reliable classification - clear material, unambiguous purpose, no uncertainties- it pre-classifies the product and places it in your Fastlane queue.
Instead of working through each product individually via the Alice chat, you get a focused list of products ready for quick human review. Your job is simply to review the suggestion and confirm or adjust it.
Products that need more attention remain outside the Fastlane and can be handled separately.
Working Through the Fastlane
Open your project and click on Fastlane in the top navigation. You'll see a list of pre-classified products with their suggested tariff codes.
For each product, you can either:
Confirm directly from the list — click the suggested code, review any additional nomenclatures, and click Confirm.
Click into the product — to view the full classification details and the AI's reasoning, then confirm from there.
After confirmation, the product switches from blue (decision pending) to black and white (completed). Blue always means a decision is still outstanding — once that's gone, the product is done.
You can also run a master data comparison or open a chat with Alice at any time if you need a second opinion.
What Determines Which Products Appear in the Fastlane?
Go to the Project Settings (top right) to view and adjust your Fastlane rules.
There are two criteria:
AI Reliability — the AI rates its own confidence as Low, Medium, High, or Very High. You set the minimum threshold. Most teams set this to High or above, so only well-supported suggestions appear in the Fastlane.
Master Data Match (optional) — when enabled, a product only appears in the Fastlane if the AI reliability meets your threshold and at least one matching variant was found in your historical tariff data. This adds an extra quality assurance layer and is most useful if you already have a solid stock of past classifications in Trade.
You can update these rules at any time without affecting already-classified products.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Fastlane
Start with the default reliability threshold (High) and adjust it based on how often you override suggestions. If you rarely change anything, you can lower the threshold slightly to push more products through. If you're frequently making corrections, raise it.
Use the grouping feature whenever you see a +2 or higher — this is one of the biggest time-savers in the Fastlane, especially for catalogs with product families or variants.
The more classifications you complete in Trade over time, the more useful the master data match rule becomes. Enabling it early offers little benefit, but it's worth switching on once your history has built up.
